Oil over $100 has JPMorgan strategists warning stock-market investors against missing out on a sudden turnaround

Brent and West Texas Intermediate front-month contracts moved above $100 on Monday after Saudi Arabia shut its East-West pipeline, citing damage from drone attacks. The closure matters because that conduit is a bypass route: it lets Saudi crude reach the Red Sea and avoid the Strait of Hormuz, so taking it offline narrows the options available to exporters and raises the premium traders attach to supply risk.

JPMorgan strategists used the moment to caution stock-market investors against assuming the energy spike fades quickly. Their argument is less about the current price than about positioning: if crude reverses lower as suddenly as it climbed, equities that have already priced in sustained high energy costs could be caught offside. That cuts both ways, which is why the bank frames it as a risk of missing a turnaround rather than a forecast.

What to watch is how long the pipeline stays closed and whether other export routes absorb the volume. Sustained disruption keeps inflation and input costs in focus for equities; a swift reopening would shift attention back to demand and earnings.
