Coinbase Stablecore partnership brings crypto custody to 3,000 US banks - The Cryptonomist

Coinbase has partnered with Stablecore to extend crypto custody services to roughly 3,000 US banks. The arrangement is designed to let community and regional institutions offer digital-asset custody to their clients without building the infrastructure themselves — Coinbase supplies the custody technology, while Stablecore provides the platform connecting banks to it.
For the market, the significance lies less in any single bank and more in distribution. Community banks collectively hold deep relationships with local depositors and businesses, so plugging crypto custody into that network could widen access well beyond the exchanges and fintechs that have dominated so far. It also signals that regulated banks increasingly view custody — safekeeping client assets — as a service worth offering, distinct from trading or lending.
What to watch: how many of the 3,000 banks actually switch the service on, which assets are supported, and how regulators respond as custody moves deeper into the traditional banking system. Adoption timelines and fee structures remain unconfirmed.
